Former Hurricanes, Sale and Gloucester fly-half to coach the backs

Former All Black Simon Mannix has been named as the new backs coach at Munster. Mannix, who was capped once in 1994, had previously spent five years working with the backs at Racing Metro before he left the club in controversial fashion last season. Mannix's departure from the Parisians sparked a players' revolt - with head coach Pierre Berbizier only just clinging on to his job. The former Hurricanes, Sale and Gloucester fly-half, though, has now been added to new head coach Rob Penney's backroom staff at Thomond Park. Munster chief executive Garrett Fitzgerald told the club's official site: "We're delighted that Simon has agreed terms and believe his playing experience in two hemispheres plus his coaching experience at the top level in France will complement the recent appointment of Rob Penney and existing position of Anthony Foley."
