Veteran Scarlets prop Peter Edwards will be sidelined until well into the new year after suffering an elbow injury.

Edwards, 35, who has played in all nine of the region's games this season, damaged ligaments in the joint during Scarlets' 29-12 European Champions Cup defeat to Racing 92 last weekend.

He requires surgery and will miss around 12 weeks, according to the Scarlets medical staff.

However, there was some good news for Scarlets with the return to fitness of Wales international prop Rhodri Jones.
