Scarlets wing DTH van der Merwe has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

The Canada international was hurt in the 19th minute of Saturday's 46-10 home defeat to Glasgow Warriors in the Guinness PRO12.

The 29-year-old will now undergo an AC joint reconstruction to his left shoulder on Thursday.

Van der Merwe has made 19 appearances for the Scarlets since joining the region from Glasgow after the World Cup last autumn and has scored eight tries.

Andrew Walker, Scarlets head of medical, told Scarlets' official website: "DTH will undergo reconstructive surgery on Thursday.

"He will miss the remainder of the current season and we would expect to see him make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2016-17 campaign."
