Scarlets have been hit by a double injury blow with the news full-back Johnny McNicholl and winger Tom Prydie are likely to miss the rest of the season.

McNicholl (shoulder) and Prydie (ankle) were injured in Scarlets' PRO14 defeat to Leinster on Saturday, though both managed to play the full game.

The Scarlets said in a statement: "We can today confirm that both are likely to miss the remainder of the season after assessments confirmed that they would both require surgery."

Prydie is set to have an operation on Thursday to repair his ankle.

McNicholl, who had surgery on Tuesday, originally injured his shoulder in Scarlets' 12-9 victory over Ospreys on Boxing Day.

In a message posted on Twitter, McNicholl said: "Just letting everyone know that my season is done on the playing field. I had my shoulder repaired yesterday due to a tear I received in the Boxing Day match vs the Ospreys.

"I tried to rehab back and managed to play 90 minutes, but the injury was worse than the scan showed.
