Nigerian handed development contract

The Scarlets have handed Principality Player of the Year Joe Ajuwa a development contract. The 27-year-old Nigerian made three appearances for the Scarlets last season, having scored 11 tries in 25 matches for Llandovery. And Ajuwa is now hoping that he will impress over the next 12 months in a bid to learn a longer deal. "I'm really pleased to be signed up with the Scarlets now full-time and just look forward to the challenge ahead and working hard in pre-season to get myself in great shape," he said. "I know I need to work on the finer points of my game and I'm looking forward to being part of the Scarlets squad next season. "Although I had some time with them last season, I'm new to the Scarlets mix and have plenty to learn from the guys around me - from simple things like the game language and team culture to the technical dynamics within the Scarlets environment. "It's a great set-up, a really good bunch of guys and there's a good atmosphere within the squad. I'm really looking forward to be part of that next season and I'm eager to impress so will be doing all I can to learn quickly." The Scarlets have also handed 12-month deals to flanker Aaron Shingler and hooker Emyr Phillips. However Scarlets wing and Wales Sevens player Darren Daniel is to join Carmarthen Quins after failing to earn a new deal.
