Scarlets head coach says opportunities available
Scarlets head coach Nigel Davies has offered Gavin Quinnell, who was recently blinded in one eye, a role on their coaching staff.
The 26-year-old ex-Viadana forward, the brother of former Wales internationals Scott and Craig and son of British and Irish Lion Derek, suffered permanent blindness in his left eye while playing for Llanelli in a Welsh Premiership match against Cross Keys on October 2.
The club have made a formal complaint to the Welsh Rugby Union and the matter is now under investigation by Gwent Police.
Davies told the
Daily Telegraph, said: "We were devastated for Gav.
"He had really come on since returning from Italy and was about to make the step across to regional rugby. He has been so brave and dealt with the incident magnificently.
"I have spoken to him and told him there would be a number of opportunities for someone like him with the club in our coaching team. Gav is very important to us."
On Monday, Quinnell wrote on his
Facebook page: "I am really overwhelmed by all the people that are saying so many kind words to me at this time and am thanking all of you.
"I really wish I could say thank you to you all in person but sorry, I can't."
