Stade Francais centre opts to return to rugby league
Melbourne Rebels have failed in their bid to sign Mark Gasnier after the 28-year-old opted to return to rugby league.
Gasnier had left the 13-a-side code in 2008 after 141 appearances for St George Illawarra, with the centre spending the past two season in France with Stade Francais.
Melbourne had been keen on bringing Gasnier back to Australia for their debut season in the Super 15.
However Gasnier has now opted to return to rugby league with the Dragons, agreeing a four-year deal with his former side.
"The last two years have been great, I've learnt a lot both on and off the field and I think living overseas, especially in Europe, teaches you a lot," said Gasnier.
"But whilst you are away from friends and family you have a lot of time to think and when you're thinking about the back end of your career you set your priorities differently and winning a competition here at the Dragons is definitely one thing I would like to achieve."
