Smith returns to France as a 'medical joker'

Stade Francais have agreed a short-term deal with former Australia flanker George Smith. The 31-year-old, who was capped 110 times by the Wallabies, will make the move from Japanese champions Suntory Sungoliaths as a 'medical joker' for Lei Tomiki. It will be Smith's second stint in France, with the former Brumbies ace having spent the 2010/11 with Toulon before teaming up with former Australia boss Eddie Jones at Suntory. Stade head coach Mickael Cheika said: "George Smith will be here on Wednesday as medical joker for flanker Lei Tomiki who suffered long-term injury and lock Gerhard Mostert, who should undergo surgery soon for his shoulder."
