Former Australia back James O'Connor has been suspended by his club Toulon after he was arrested last weekend in Paris for a drugs offence.

O'Connor and former All Blacks lock Ali Williams spent more than 24 hours in custody after they were arrested outside a nightclub for buying cocaine in the early hours of Saturday, with O'Connor subsequently fined for cocaine use by the Paris prosecutor's office the following day.

He met with Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal on Tuesday and was suspended as a precautionary measure before another meeting "within eight days", Toulon said.
