Loss of financial support sees Drewett and Greening depart

Plymouth Albion have confirmed they have parted company with Pete Drewett and Phil Greening following the loss of financial backing. Drewett and Greening only arrived at Brickfields at the end of November to replace former chairman of rugby Graham Dawe. The duo were in charge for just six games, recording promising wins over Doncaster Knights in the Championship and Ayr in the British and Irish Cup. However with the backer who was underwriting their salaries having to withdraw his support for personal reasons, Drewett and Greening have now left the club. Nat Saumi and John Roberts have taken over the reins in the interim, although the club have not given up hope of bringing former Exeter boss Drewett and ex London Welsh head coach Greening back.

Stressful

A statement from the club read: "We tried our best to keep the coaching team in place for a further period whilst we resolve the issues but for understandable personal reasons this was not possible. We will maintain contact to explore options. "The board is raising additional funds and is meeting with shareholders of the club in early January to resolve the situation. A further announcement will be made later. "In the short term Nat Saumi and John Roberts will take responsibility for coaching and James Owen will continue in the fitness and conditioning role. "It is a stressful time for all involved and in particular for Pete who joined Albion for an exciting career change opportunity and in the brief time with us has made a positive impact."
