Although predominantly used by the Stags, the Highlanders also played Super Rugby games at Rugby Park.
The heartbeat of rugby in the Southland region, the Rugby Park Stadium was opened in the early 1900s. Having had some changes over the years, the ground underwent a major redevelopment in 2001, with South Stand benefiting the most - including new changing rooms, media facilities, hospitality lounges and offices. Although mainly used by the Stags in the ITM Cup, the Highlanders have also played Super Rugby games there - while the British and Irish Lions were the visitors in 2005. However, Southland rugby league have previously been refused permission to host games there.
