Wales back Hallam Amos is expected to be sidelined until the New Year after suffering a shoulder injury.

The 22-year-old was released from Wales' autumn Test squad on Tuesday.

He was hurt during the second-half of Wales' 32-8 defeat against Australia in Cardiff last weekend.

Amos, who has won 11 caps, impressed after coming on as a substitute before injury struck.

In an injury update posted on the official Newport Gwent Dragons website, Amos' regional team said he would now require surgery.

"Having been reviewed by a specialist, he will undergo surgery next week," the Dragons said. "Amos will then require a period of rehabilitation, with an expected return to play in the New Year."
