Munster have been dealt a massive blow with the news that Christian Cullen will be out until February.

New Zealand's record try-scorer missed the end of last season after he tore ligaments in his left shoulder.

A statement from the club read: "Complications have occurred with Christian's injury and are being assessed by the medical team. He will not be available to resume playing for Munster until February."

Cullen joined the Irish province on a three-year contract in 2003 after winning 58 caps for the All Blacks.

Munster face Sale Sharks, Castres Olympique and Newport Gwent Dragons in Pool One of the Heineken Cup and Cullen will miss all six fixtures in the group stage.
