Emms set to miss season

Simon Emms could miss the Premiership season after having surgery on his bicep.

Northampton Saints have been rocked by the news that Simon Emms could be ruled out for the rest of the 2005/06 season.

Just one game into the new campaign, Emms will have surgery on a bicep injury, with doctors warning that he might not return before next summer.

The prop ruptured the right distal bicep during training, and the recovery period for such an injury can be anything up to nine months.

The news is sure to be a blow to director Budge Poutney, who will need a fully fit squad as he negotiates what is sure to be another tough season at Franklin's Gardens.

There is some good news for Saints however, with David Quinlan set to return in their first home game, after being ruled out at the eleventh hour for the season opener against Leicester.
