Lamont: Saints to bounce back

Future is bright for Northampton despite opening loss says Sean Lamont

Let's face it our opening game against Leicester certainly was not the best start to the Guinness Premiership.

Losing like that to the Tigers was very disappointing and we need to take a long hard look at where we went wrong.

Leicester's win was built on an impressive display by their forwards, with new signings Alex Moreno, Leo Cullen and Shane Jennings doing very well. They did not seem to miss the old guard of Neil Back and Martin Johnson at all.

They have always been a strong side and have got bags of depth. Going to Welford Rd is intimidating but I can promise you that our performance will only get better.

Don't forget we have 15 new faces here and it does take time to gel. The atmosphere and commitment is really great and I am really enjoying it. Despite the loss there's a good feeling amongst the team.

Last season was a tough one for Saints and they showed a lot of courage and character. Hopefully this year I can be part of getting Northampton back to the top of the premiership table.

I did not have too much time to dwell on Saturday's disappointment as I was in action on Monday for Wanderers. I scored my first try in Saints colours as Wanderers beat Newcastle Falcons in the Guinness A league.

It was great to get a full 80 minutes on the field and it has made me even more determined to fight for a starting berth.

Owen Finnegan played in that game too and he certainly brings a wealth of experience to Franklin's Gardens.

One of the reasons I joined Northampton was the diversity of styles and experience at the club. I believe that can only be good and the more we learn the quicker we will grow and the better we shall become.

Carlos Spencer is another player I am looking forward to playing with, once he gets going I feel he will make a huge difference and my game can only improve when surrounded by such talent.

This weekend we have a huge game against Bath and it is vital we bounce back from out first round defeat. However they will also be looking for their first win after they were shocked by Bristol in their West Country derby.

It just goes to show that there are no easy games in the Guinness Premiership but we will certainly be looking for our first win at the Rec.
