Deacon gets England call-up

Leicester Tigers lock Louis Deacon has been called into the England squad.

Leicester Tigers lock Louis Deacon has been called up into Andy Robinson's England squad due to injury doubts over Simon Shaw and Tom Palmer.

The 24-year-old has not yet won a cap for his country but was part of England's victorious Churchill Cup squad last summer.

Deacon has been captain of Leicester in the absence of Martin Corry, and Robinson has called him into his England squad ahead of more experienced rivals such as Steve Borthwick and Tigers team-mate Ben Kay.

Robinson made the move as both Leeds lock Palmer and Wasps second row Shaw continue to struggle with injury problems, and Deacon will now join the rest of Robinson's squad for training at Loughborough University.

Shaw is being troubled by a back injury while Palmer picked up a stomach strain in training last week and is still feeling the effects.

England kick-off their autumn programme of international matches against Australia on November 12, followed by Tests on successive Saturdays against New Zealand and Samoa. All three games will be shown live on Sky Sports.
