Cohen will face the Wallabies

Andy Robinson has named Ben Cohen in his matchday squad to face Australia.

England coach Andy Robinson has restored Ben Cohen to his matchday squad, just weeks after ignoring the big winger in his initial squad selection.

Cohen responded by racking up six tries in four matches for Northampton Saints, prompting Robinson to add him to his international setup.

Now Robinson has paid the World Cup-winner the highest compliment by selecting him in the squad to face Australia on November 12.

"I have had a couple of player-cams trained on him this season," revealed Robinson.

"His whole work rate and the amount he puts into the game is a credit to him. The one thing you want for a winger is for him to be scoring tries and he has been taking those opportunities.

"With that freshness and his whole enthusiasm and smile he has had on his face, he has earned the right to be in the 22."

Ten players have been cut from the 32 however, with three being ruled out through injury.

Joe Worsley (knee), Alex Brown (neck) and Simon Shaw (back) were the unlucky trio, whilst sevens others - Tom Voyce, Ollie Smith, Andy Goode, Peter Richards, Perry Freshwater, Andy Hazell and Jamie Forrester - were all overlooked by the England coach.

The news does mean that Olly Barkley of Bath continues his resurgence into the England reckoning, whilst Pat Sanderson could win his first cap for four years.

The England coach admitted that the Worcester captain's performances have made him impossible to leave out ahead of the November schedule.

"Pat has had to work hard to get in this squad but he is playing very well and I had no option but to include him because of his performances.

"You respect a player who despite his disappointments has kept knocking down the door."

Mark van Gisbergen also moves a step closer to his international debut, with the Wasps man extremely likely to fill the full back vacancy against the Wallabies, after Robinson declared: "I have no doubts about Mark Van Gisbergen".

Two further uncapped players feature in Robinson's 22, with Bath's Lee Mears and Leicester' Louis Deacon both in line to pull on the famous red rose.
