Dallaglio blasts beaten Wasps

Lawrence Dallaglio was livid with his teammates after their 21-13 defeat.

Lawrence Dallaglio offered up no excuses as Wasps' European dreams faded away in the Llanelli fog, blaming his fellow colleagues for a sub-standard performance at Stradey Park.

The English Premiership champions were well below their best against a Scarlets side that dominated nearly the entire contest.

And Dallaglio was left fuming as the prospect of another season of European heartbreak dawned on the influential number eight.

"I am very disappointed and very angry with everyone, including myself," stressed Dallaglio.

"With the quality in our group it was going to be very difficult but we just weren't good enough today.

"We are trading on our reputation of the last two or three years, and we have got no divine right to win any game. It is down to hard work, effort and energy.

"At the moment, one or two are putting it in, and one or two aren't. We got what we deserved today. We are out of Europe yes, and we are desperately disappointed because we want to win trophies.

"We are out of one competition, but very much involved in the other two, and we have just got to start playing the way we know we can."

Wasps have just three points from their first three fixtures, meaning that they could even fail to qualify if they were to win their remaining matches - which includes an away trip to holders Toulouse.

Boss Ian McGeechan was equally distraught with his side's display, ranking it as the worst performance of the season.

"We were nowhere near the standard we want to be at and our worst two away performances this season have been in the Heineken Cup," said Wasps director of rugby.

"We are really annoyed with ourselves, but we will be full-on in the next three European games and we intend to hurt a few people if we can.

"The game was nowhere near the pace we would have liked, and we gave all away. You cannot expect to win games if you do that."

The Scarlets were understandably in far more buoyant mood after their 21-13 victory, which took them to within three points of leaders Toulouse.

Director Gareth Jenkins remained relatively calm about his team's prospects of qualification to the knockout stages, but he was full of praise for prop John Davies.

"Toulouse are still favourites, lets be realistic about that, and we've now got to go to Wasps next week," warned Jenkins.

"I thought John Davies was rightly man of the match, and he has earned the respect of everyone who would have watched that game today.

"He is unbreakable. The scrum wasn't a problem for us, and John is still a player that deserves all the respect he's got."
