Dallaglio sparks Scarlet rage

Llanelli Scarlets are furious with Lawrence Dallaglio for his part in Simon Easterby's eye injury.

The good name of Wasps captain Lawrence Dallaglio has suffered a severe tainting from Llanelli Scarlets boss Gareth Jenkins, who has accused the England man of intentional foul play towards Simon Easterby.

The Scarlets back row suffered heavy damage to his eye during last week's Heineken Cup clash, resulting in the need for hospital treatment, and Jenkins is adamant that Dallaglio was one of the chief culprits for what he called 'cynical targeting'.

"There were several instances that we had concerns about in which Simon was personally given attention around his face area by two or three players, including Lawrence Dallaglio," raged the Welshman.

"It is disappointing because we believe there was a cynical attempt to put a hand in Simon's eyes. Simon ended up in hospital and is to see a specialist this week.

"We owe it to the player to follow this up. We are considering making a complaint to Wasps."

Easterby's case has already been referred to the citing officer, who felt there was no misconduct to answer for Dallaglio and his colleagues.

The Scarlets will now appeal to the conscience of Wasps' officials, although the matter is unlikely to affect the participation of the powerful number eight in the Boxing Day clash with Gloucester.
