Flying Frikkie makes Bulls U-turn
Frikkie Welsh has been granted a move back to Super 14 side Blue Bulls.
Bath Rugby have agreed to release Frikkie Welsh after the South African flyer handed in a transfer request.
Welsh is set to reignite his Super 14 career with former employers Blue Bulls, from whom he joined Bath back in 2004.
The winger is desperate to feature for his country in the World Cup, and the West Country club decided not to stand in his way.
"I have loved every minute of my time here. It was a privilege to live and play rugby in such a beautiful city," said an emotional Welsh.
"The fans here are incredible and I will miss playing in front of them. I would love to come back and play here again one day.
"My aim now is to go back to South Africa and get involved in the Super 14s with the Blue Bulls and then hopefully get my chance with the Springboks."
Welsh scored some simply stunning tries during his short time at the Recreation Ground, most notably the solo effort against Bristol in the opening game of this season.
News of the South African's departure has been softened by the summer return of Australian Shaun Berne, but Welsh's departure does leave Bath one man short in their quest to avoid the drop.
