Wallabies will pack a punch - Kay

Ben Kay has warned England to expect a stronger Australian backbone.

England lock Ben Kay has warned his men they will have to play some expansive rugby if they are to beat Australia.

Kay is one of the senior individuals of the tour 'down under', and he travels as the only squad member to have started in the final of England's 2003 World Cup triumph.

A dip in form saw him lose his place to Bath duo Danny Grewcock and Steve Borthwick for the last encounter with the Wallabies, a clash that saw the England pack bully their opposition into submission.

However, none of the front three who wore white that day will feature in Sydney on June 11, and Kay insists the Australian forwards will be no pushovers.

"The Australian pack aren't as bad as I think everyone makes out," stated the Leicester lock.

"They have a good set of forwards and they are well coached.

"Everyone can have a bad day. They can turn it around."

England face a Wallabies side led by former Bath coach John Connolly, a man who is known for his discipline in the tight areas.

Also formerly of Bath, Andy Robinson will know all-too-well of the strengths Connolly will bring to Australia, and he believes the former World Champions are not far away from a return to the peak of the game.

"I think that there's a lot been written about the Australians, the demise they've been through, but actually I think they've been playing pretty well, they've just been a little bit unlucky," said the England boss.
