Williams confident of revenge
Winger Shane Williams is positive ahead of Wales' second Test against Argentina.
Welsh winger Shane Williams is confident that his side can recover from their defeat to Argentina and insists that his side will be fired up for Saturday's second Test in Buenos Aires.
Following their 27-25 defeat to the Pumas in Patagonia on Sunday, the Welsh squad are without a win in four games, but Williams believes that his team have proved their potential and is confident that they will come back even stronger on Saturday.
The two sides were equal try for try in a physical encounter, with three apiece, but it was the boot of Federico Todeschini that proved crucial, with his 13 points sufficient to win the game.
Welsh youngsters Ian Evans and James Hook both scored on their Test debuts and Williams was proud of the young players.
"We didn't have a lot of experience in our side, but there were some great individual performances by the players who came in so we took a lot of positives out of the game," said the Ospreys star.
"I was so proud to be part of that performance. Although we had such a young side out, we battled so hard to get Gareth's (new head coach Gareth Jenkins) reign off to a winning start and we came so close to doing that.
"We certainly worried them more than they worried us. I'm convinced we've got a great side out here. The forwards and the backs we have got are capable of scoring tries against any team in the world.
"We broke their defensive line quite often, but perhaps didn't reap the rewards we should have done. What is particularly pleasing is that we are capable of scoring tries from anywhere. There is a confidence running right through this team."
Wales struggled following yellow cards to Gavin Thomas and Alix Popham in quick succession, allowing the Pumas to capitalise on their two-man advantage to score 13 points before half-time.
With 38 caps, Williams is the party's most experienced member, and the young players will be looking to him for inspiration. Williams insisted that their lack of discipline was a turning point in the game, but praised the young players' response as a "real positive", and insisted that the next game will see an even better Welsh performance.
"We were playing a good Argentina side, and I'm sure we're only going to get better with more time together."
Despite their third victory in four games over Wales, Argentina veteran Mario Ledesma is expecting an improvement from the Pumas after a rusty display in Patagonia, and is looking forward to the return of Felipe Contepomi.
"I hope we are going to play much better. We've only just started, this was our first game together since last November and we are a bit disappointed with our first performance," he said.
"Of course we will have Felipe Contepomi back with us, he is one of the best play-makers on the world."
