Fresh England blow for Sinbad
James Simpson-Daniel's England ambitions have taken another knock in Australia.
Australia v England, Sunday June 11, 10.30am, live on Sky Sports 1.
James Simpson-Daniel's England ambitions have taken a knock after he was ruled out of the short tour of Australia.
The Gloucester winger was already set to miss the first Test against The Wallabies in Syndey on Sunday, with Leicester flyer Ton Varndell taking his place.
Simpson-Daniel was admitted to hospital with a haematoma in his leg, and was being treated with pain-killing injections.
The problem is enough to rule the 24-year-old out of next week's second Test in Melbourne and means he will not see any action in Australia.
"James won't be available for the second Test," said England head coach Andy Robinson.
"He is still in hospital, and if he doesn't need pain-killing injections today, he will be released from hospital.
"He has got a haematoma that has spread through the muscle. I went to see him yesterday, and it is pretty swollen and very painful."
The injury is yet another blow to Simpson-Daniel's England ambitions, after back problems and glandular fever stopped him adding to his nine caps.
Much is expected from him though, and he was hoping to use the two-Test tour of Australia to make an impact and stake a claim for next year's World Cup side.
His two-try performance against the Barbarians had suggested that he is finally ready to perform on the international stage, but he now has to wait for yet another opportunity.
