Faz finally ready for Sarries bow
Andy Farrell is finally poised to make his long-awaited bow for Saracens on Monday.
Andy Farrell is finally poised to make his long-awaited bow for Saracens some 18 months after originally joining the club. The former Great Britain and Wigan rugby league skipper has been plagued by injury setbacks since switching codes and has yet to make his competitive debut for the Londoners.
However, that is all set to change as the 31-year-old is expected to start Saracens' Guinness A League game against Harlequins on Monday.
"There is a very strong chance that Andy will play (tonight)," Saracens rugby director Alan Gaffney stated.
"All things being equal, he will play. We need to see how he adapts after being out of physical contact on the pitch for the past 16 months or so."
If Farrell does come through the outing unscathed, there is a strong possibility he will feature in the Premiership clash with Newcastle at Vicarage Road next Sunday.
He would join a side still looking for their first win of the season following a turgid draw at Bristol on Sunday.
Gaffney knows there is much for his troops to work on - not least their indiscipline.
"We conceded 10 penalties in the first half against Wasps last weekend, and I don't know how many we conceded against Bristol," he continued.
"We have got to take a long, hard look at ourselves and work out why we are as indisciplined as we are.
"It is possibly a confidence thing. We are training particularly well, and the players are confident when they go out on the pitch, but we are not as smart or as cute as we should be."
