Neil certain Best still to come
Back-rower Neil Best is adamant that both he and Ireland can still improve further.
Neil Best is adamant that both he and Ireland have more in the tank despite the superb performances that have seen South Africa and Australia put to the sword over the past two weekends. The men in green would appear to have installed themselves as favourites for the forthcoming Six Nations championship and are also genuine dark horses for next year's World Cup having comprehensively outplayed both Southern hemisphere nations.
While the Springboks were outclassed with an expansive display of attacking rugby, Eddie O'Sullivan's men showed they can also rough it when need be as they made light of atrocious conditions at Lansdowne Road on Sunday to overpower the Wallabies 21-6.
Ulster flanker Best scooped the man-of-the-match award following another all-action display, capped by a series of shuddering tackles.
The pick came on Lote Tuqiri and set the tone as the home pack out-muscled their opposite numbers, but Best - who was quick to underline his taste for the physical side of the game - insisted afterwards that he, and his team-mates, could still improve further.
"It's nice to beat people when they run into your channel," he explained. "Against South Africa last week it was frustrating because I didn't get the hits in. That's the part of the game I enjoy and it didn't happen for me against South Africa.
"I'm glad I got a few in against Australia. I hope I've got better games ahead of me - I'd like to get better and better every time I wear an Ireland shirt.
"Everybody is working hard for each other so anyone could have won the man of the match award.
"This is a good victory for us regardless of the conditions. We played well in the first half, although we didn't quite match it in the second half.
"It was good to have that points cushion but there are still things to work on. Beating southern hemisphere over two weekends is very good. We were the favourites for both games and I'm glad we've won."
