Sean Lamont is hoping for better memories of Twickenham on Saturday.

Winger Sean Lamont is hoping for better memories of Twickenham when Scotland take on England in their opening RBS Six Nations Championship on Saturday.

Lamont, who plays in the Guinness Premiership for Northampton, scored on his last visit to the home of English rugby - however, a heavy bang to the head and an even heavier defeat meant it wasn't the best of days for the 26-year-old.

He said: "I scored in 2005 at Twickenham - a five-yard flop after a break by Andy Craig - but I was suffering with a really sore head after a clash with 'Craigy' earlier in the game.

"One of their players had broken through the middle and he went in with his right shoulder while I used my left - and our heads whacked into each other.

"I had an absolute blinder of a headache for the rest of the game. I didn't come off and I think I remember most of the match okay - I suppose it's just one of those things that happens.

"Most of the boys went out that night because it was the last game of the tournament, but I went back to my hotel room and slept away all night."

Despite only a hazy memory of his score in 2005, Lamont would happily swap scoring for a Scotlandi vctory.

He said: "I'd be quite happily get no tries if, as a team, we get a full house of wins in the championship," he said.

"Wingers are marked by how many tries are scored, but I've spoken to (coach) Frank Hadden about this and I know that if I can make so many carries in a game then I am doing my bit for the team.

"So, even if I don't get any tries, but somebody else does because of the yards I've made, then I'll be happy with that.

"Everyone loves scoring tries because that's what gets your name in the paper, but if the team scores off your yards that's just as good."
