Timely recall for Charvis
Colin Charvis has been named in the Wales squad for the Six Nations.
Wales have recalled former captain Colin Charvis for the forthcoming RBS Six Nations tournament.
Charvis earned the last of his 84 caps in an 18-18 draw with Italy in the 2006 championship, but injuries have forced coach Gareth Jenkins' hand on the matter.
Gloucester hooker Mefin Davies has also been named in the 33-man squad, alongside Bath No.8 Gareth Delve and Cardiff flanker Scott Morgan.
Jenkins admitted Charvis' return was a result of his stellar form since joining the Newport-Gwent Dragons after being released by Newcastle Falcons.
"We have brought Colin back into the fold at the age of 34 and his performances at regional level justify his selection in the light of the injury problems we have in his position," Jenkins commented.
"Ian Evans and Jonathan Thomas have both been out of contention for the Ospreys with shoulder problems and Dafydd Jones is just returning for the [Llanelli] Scarlets.
"Their absence has paved the way for Colin's return."
Injuries have left Jenkins still requiring second-row cover and he has intimated that Morgan could well get the nod.
"Scott has played himself into contention with some sterling performances for the Blues as a middle line-out jumper mostly from the number six position, but our squad make-up means we will be looking for him to give us options at lock," Jenkins added.
"The same applies to Alun Wyn Jones who we will now probably look at exclusively as a second row.
"In the backs Mark Jones, Lee Byrne and Sonny Parker have all suffered injuries, which is a blow for us, but the door is not closed on this squad."
Wales kick off their Six Nations campaign at home to Ireland on February 14.
