Fava falls foul of alcohol test

Scott Fava will miss Western Force's match against Northern Bulls on Friday.

Scott Fava will miss Western Force's match against Northern Bulls in Pretoria on Friday after failing an alcohol test.

The Force players have a strict protocol that means they must not have an alcohol level in excess of 0.040 on the morning after a match.

Wallaby flanker Fava was found to be above the limit the day after the 22-3 victory over Western Stormers in Durban.

"It was a misjudgement on my part and one I regret," said Fava, who was suspended for one game as it was his second offence.

"After my breach last year, I adopted an approach I thought would better manage my post-match re-hydration. Unfortunately, this was not enough.

"I don't believe my body deals with the de-toxing of alcohol as well as other people and I will be making further changes as to how I approach my recovery.

"I am part of the playing group which agreed to these protocols and I accept these consequences."

Cameron Shepherd and Haig Sare also breached the protocol following the match against the Stormers but, as it was their first offence, were punished with a AU$500 fine.
