Robbo eyes 'something special'

Jason Robinson was buoyed by England's start under Brian Ashton.

Jason Robinson helped England to a fine 42-20 victory over Scotland on Saturday, and then declared it could be the start of 'something special' for the World Champions.

Robinson helped himself to two tries on his return from international retirement, and his performance was one of several pluses for England.

The pack provided ample ball for the backs, who frequently turned Scotland on their heels thanks to the brilliant sniping runs of Harry Ellis.

For the first time for well over a year, there were signs that England may become a force once more, and Robinson admits he can sense the buzz.

"I thought the team showed a lot. The forwards really took charge of the game, and it was great to have Jonny out there controlling the game," he said.

"There were a lot of signs of something special, but we have got a lot of work to do. We want to turn things around and get back to winning ways.

"It wasn't about me or Jonny, it was about everyone working hard for the cause. We knew the more we put in as a team, the more we would get out of it.

"Life is a lot better in rugby when you are winning. It was a good start for us, but hopefully the more games we have together, the better we will get."

A major cause for optimism in the England camp surrounds the return of Jonny Wilkinson, who looked like he had never been away with a comprehensive 27-point haul.

When England suffered a first half dip that saw Scotland steal the lead, it was the Newcastle man's boot that stopped the team's fragile confidence from shattering, and Robinson was one of 82,000 admirers inside Twickenham.

"Jonny was outstanding," he continued. "When you are around Jonny and you see the attention he gives to detail and the time he spends perfecting what he does, it is no surprise.

"It is not a fluke, it is achieved by a lot of hard work and dedication.

"He has hardly had any game time in the last three years, but to come in and perform under so much pressure was superb. He has got all the skills, and he loves the big stage. He can handle the pressure."
