Reformed Walker returns
Andrew Walker is aiming to earn a recall to the Australia side in time for the World Cup.
Controversial cross-code convert Andrew Walker has returned to Australia in a late bid to break into the Wallabies' World Cup squad.
The 32-year-old back has been lured out of his exile in France to join the Queensland Reds 30 months after he was handed a two-year ban for drug abuse.
Walker, who tested positive for cocaine while playing rugby league for Manly in 2004, attempted to relaunch his rugby career in the less auspicious surroundings of the French second division with Gaillac.
But with Australia full-back Chris Latham suffering a knee injury, Walker has been tempted back in a bid to reclaim his place in the Wallabies line-up six years after his last appearance.
And Walker, whose other misdemeanours include crashing a car while over the limit, claims he has cleaned up his act and found Christianity.
He told The Sydney Daily Telegraph: "The World Cup is a goal.
"I've never had the chance to play in a World Cup and that was a big incentive to come back home.
"I've come back with a good mindset and my attitude is a whole lot better than what it used to be in the past.
"Apart from the occasional glass of wine I had in France, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I've become a Christian. That's changed my life around.
"During the two years when I was banned, I joined Hillsong (Church in Sydney's north-west). My wife has been a big influence. She's a Christian, she's believed in me, and it started from there."
