Western Force full-back Cameron Shepherd is out for six weeks after suffering a knee injury during Friday's Super 14 match against ACT Brumbies.Shepherd underwent a scan amid fears his season could be over but the results showed only a partial tear of the cruciate ligament that does not require surgery.
The 23-year-old faces a six-week lay-off that means he will miss Australia's Test against Wales in Sydney on May 26.
Shepherd's absence leaves Wallabies' coach John Connolly short of options at full-back as first-choice Chris Latham is also currently sidelined by a knee injury.
Queensland's Clinton Schifcofske, Julian Huxley of the Brumbies and NSW Waratahs' Peter Hewat are the main candidates to deputise, alternatively, Lote Tuqiri could switch from the wing.
Connolly will announce a 30-man squad on May 20.
