Pumas prop agrees one-year deal at Bulls

Pumas tighthead prop Rassie Jansen van Vuuren is the latest in an impressive list of new Blue Bulls signings. It has been confirmed that he will be joining the Pretoria-based side on a one-year contract. The talented 22-year-old is a destructive scrummager, with excellent ball skills and played more than 20 matches for the Pumas this year - scoring five tries in the Absa First Division competition. Jansen van Vuuren, who weighs in at 125 kilograms, is a product of Hoërskool Nelspruit. He also played Craven Week for the Pumas in 2003. He originally started out as a hooker, but successfully switched to prop after leaving school. After playing for the Lions' Under-20 and Under-21 teams, he decided last year to further his career in France - joining Gaillac in the Pro D2 league. Financial troubles saw authorities relegate the club to the Fédérale 3 league and Jansen van Vuuren returned to South Africa. He rejoined the Lions, but was loaned to the Pumas, where he made his senior provincial debut this year. Van Vuuren will be in the Super 14 champions' initial Super 14 squad, where he will compete with Rayno Gerber, Richard Bands and Werner Kruger for a Bulls starting spot.
