ARU attempt to fend off offers from Bristol and Ulster
The Australian Rugby Union has moved to fend off the attentions of Bristol and Ulster by offering full-back Chris Lathan a two-year contract extension.
With Latham's current contract with the ARU is due to expire in 2008, Bristol and Ulster have already moved to offer deals to the 32-year-old - while a host of Europe's leading clubs are also monitoring the situation closer
However, the ARU are hoping that the Queensland Reds star, who has been capped 78 times by the Wallabies, will be convinced to stay down under.
ARU high performance manager Pat Howard said: "We understand Chris has been fielding some very lucrative offers from rugby clubs in the UK, but we are very keen to see him continue his representative career in Australia and hope this new two-year deal convinces him to stay."
