Wasps and England flanker Joe Worsley has been ruled out until the end of December with the hamstring injury he sustained in the World Cup final.
Worsley suffered a triple tear of the hamstring only moments after coming on as a replacement against South Africa and will be sidelined for around eight weeks.
"I was in a ruck, got stuck, ended up doing the splits and getting into a position probably a ballerina would struggle with," Worsley told
The Times.
The upshot of this being that it leaves him with only four weeks to prove himself for the Six Nations. Perhaps partly because of that he wisely sidestepped the furore caused by Lawrence Dallaglio, his London Wasps and England team-mate, who has severely criticised the preparations under Brian Ashton, the England head coach.
"I have opinions, but it's a minefield," Worsley added. "I don't think I can add to it."
Worsley jogged on the injury for the first time on Wednesday, as part of Wasps' training session at Coventry Rugby Club. The idea behind the change in training venue is aimed at drumming up support for their Heineken Cup clash against Munster, to be played at the Rioch Arena in Coventry a week on Saturday.
So far only 12,000 tickets have been sold, a further 20,000 are available and Wasps officials will be hoping sales increase after they took the decision to change venues for the game.
