South Afica have selected uncapped prop Heinke van der Merwe for the matches against Wales and the Barbarians. Van der Merwe is named alongside recalled utility back Conrad Jantjes in a much-changed squad to that which triumphed at the recent World Cup. Os Du Randt and Bob Skinstad have retired while Percy Montgomery, BJ Botha, Jean De Villiers and Pierre Spies all miss out due to injury. Butch James, Gary Botha and Ashwin Willemse were not considered as they have joined foreign club sides. The Springboks are scheduled to play Wales in Cardiff on November 24 and the Barbarians at Twickenham on December 1. Meanwhile, Bryan Habana was named South African player of the year award at a ceremony on Wednesday. The winger, who was the leading try scorer at the World Cup, and had already collected the IRB player of the year trophy.
