Veteran Warriors prop set to coach academy players

Veteran Worcester prop Tony Windo has been appointed as player-coach at the Warriors until the end of the season. Although the 38-year-old remains part of Mike Ruddock's first-team plans, Windo will now work with the club's academy players to help develop the next generation of stars. Director of rugby Ruddock told the club's website: "Tony is a model professional and a great example to any young players so we're delighted he has agreed this role," said Ruddock. "His influence at the club over the many years he has been involved has been a very positive one and I'm sure that whenever he's not playing for the senior team his experience will be most valuable to the younger players in the club's academy. "He is in the last year of a contract with us and he may well play on, I'm not saying he won't. But he is the sort of character we want to keep here to develop a Leicester Tigers type of back-room. "Tony agreeing to take on this role is a big boost and backs up the work we are trying to do by introducing a mentor system so that the senior players can pass on advice top the younger lads."
