Habana snr dismisses son's Baynonne move

Bernie Habana, father and manager of Springbok wing Bryan Habana, has dismissed the latest round of reports on the star winger's future. The World Cup winning Springbok has once again been linked with a move to French Top 14 club Bayonne - however Habana senior has labelled reports as "absolute rubbish". Rumours of an alleged Habana switch from the Bulls to Bayonne have been ongoing - and the most recent reports emanating from France claim that Habana has been made a €400,000-a-year deal. Bernie Habana and the Bulls' business and communications manager Ian Schwartz have once more quashed these rumours - saying Habana is committed to the Bulls. "We deny the reports in the strongest possible terms," said Schwartz. "He [Bryan Habana] has a contract with us till 2009 and we are not at all concerned about these reports. "I can assure you that his dream is to continue playing for the Bulls, the Springboks and face the British and Irish Lions as a member of the Bok team in 2009."

Rubbish

A frustrated Habana senior echoed Schwartz's comments, and claims all reports from the French club have been fabricated. "We have never seen a contract [from Bayonne] and I have no idea where they come up with those figures," Bernie Habana told rugby365.com. "I have no idea where the latest article comes from and we have never granted him an interview." Habana senior also rubbished reports that his son's decision may depend upon who new Springbok coach Peter de Villiers appoints as the national team's captain. "I can state categorically that Bryan supports the appointment of Peter [de Villiers] as Springbok coach," Habana senior said. "Peter is the right choice and Bryan respects him as coach. "Whoever the captain is has absolutely no influence on Bryan and he is determined to continue playing for South Africa - which has always been his dream. "He will never try an influence who the captain must be. He is an absolute professional and will play under any captain - as he has already proved."
