Recalled full-back expects tough game in Cardiff

Chris Paterson believes Scotland can spring a surprise against Wales in Saturday's RBS Six Nations match. Paterson has been recalled for the trip to the Millennium Stadium after only featuring as a replacement in last Sunday's 27-6 defeat to France at Murrayfield. The Gloucester full-back replaces the injured Rory Lamont and is set to make his 83rd appearance, taking him past Gregor Townsend as his country's most capped back. And Paterson is hoping to mark the occasion by helping Scotland bring an end to new Wales coach Warren Gatland's honeymoon period. Gatland oversaw a 26-19 victory over England at Twickenham in his first match in charge, ending a 20-year drought at the venue. "It's always a big ask to go to Cardiff and win, and after last week's results it's an even bigger ask. "We're underdogs, which we like. There will be huge anticipation for Wales to play well and perform - from themselves and the fans. "So, we'll have to frustrate that."

Impact

Paterson is keen to produce a performance to justify his recall and is hoping to get the opportunity to stretch his legs against Wales. "I just want to get my hands on the ball," he added. "I want to have as big an impact and run with it as much as possible. "But the opposition and your own team dictate when you get your hands on the ball, so you just have to wait and see when the opportunities come. "It's no secret that everyone prefers to start. I'm delighted to be back in. But I'll prepare this week as I prepared last week, because I knew I could have been on after 30 seconds."
