Doncaster centre to join Falcons in the summer

Former England Under-21 international Spencer Davey has agreed a year-long deal with Newcastle Falcons. The Doncaster Knights centre will move to Kingston Park in the summer to increase the club's options in the midfield - with the likes Jonny Wilkinson, Mathew Tait, Toby Flood and Jamie Noon spending time away with England. Davey has been sidelined recently with a hamstring injury, but he has played a key role in Doncaster's fine season in National One. The 25-year-old has previous played for Bath and Glasgow, with Newcastle's interim director of rugby Steve Bates delighted to have completed the signing. He told the club's official website: "Spencer is a player we have been watching for some time, and we are delighted to have secured his signature. "With our international backs away for so much of the season the need for depth in midfield is absolutely vital for us going forward, and Spencer will therefore be a quality addition to our playing group. "He has good experience of rugby in allsorts of different environments in the Premiership, Celtic League and National One, so he is a player capable of adapting and we look forward to working with him over the next season."
