Leicester chairman demands success

The future of Leicester Tigers coach Marcelo Loffreda remains in doubt despite Saturday's win over Bristol. The Tigers picked up two trophies last season, winning the Guinness Premiership play-offs and the EDF Energy Cup, while they were only denied the treble by Wasps in the Heineken Cup final. However it has been a different story this season, with the club failing to reach the same heights under former Argentina boss Loffreda, who took over the reigns in November. They exited the Heineken Cup early, were beaten in the EDF Energy Cup final by the Ospreys and now face a fight to secure a place in the play-offs. And despite "clear the air" talks between the Leicester board, the coaching staff and senior players, Loffreda has been warned that the club will be "ruthless" if things don't improve.

No illusions

Chairman Peter Tom told The Leicester Mercury: "On Wednesday, we had a good heart-to-heart with the coaches and the senior players. "We cleared the air and everybody knows what they need to do. "Marcelo is under no illusions that Leicester demand success and that's what it is all about. "Leicester is a ruthless club. It is all about success and, if it is not quite there, you have to try to sort it out. "It has been a difficult season, we have had trouble with injuries and it was always going to be difficult with Marcelo coming in halfway through the season after the World Cup. "You accept those difficulties, but the manner in which we have lost has been hard to take.''
