England fly-half puts pen to paper on two-year contract

Leicester's England international fly-half Andy Goode has signed a two-year contract plus an option for a third with Brive, the French club announced on Thursday. The 28-year-old, who has nine caps for England, won the Premiership title six times after joining the Tigers in 1998 and also enjoyed European Cup success in 2001 and 2002. Goode, who has also previously played for Saracens, joins compatriots Ben Cohen, Steve Thompson and Ben Johnston in south-western France - and will reportedly be paid £200,000-a-year. He also re-unites with Christophe Laussucq, his half-back partner last season at Leicester who is now in a coaching position with Brive. Goode did have a year left on his deal at Welford Road, but the Tigers are believed to have accepted atransfer fee of around £150,000 to let him leave. New Leicester coach Heyneke Meyer earlier said he would let Goode go, but only if the price was right. "Heyneke's view, which we share, is that we wouldn't want to keep an unhappy player," Tigers chairman Peter Tom told the Daily Mail.
