Kidney names former Sarries chief as his new backs coach

Former Saracens and Munster director of rugby Alan Gaffney has been appointed as Ireland's new backs coach. Gaffney, who guided Sarries to the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup last season, will combine the role with his full-time post with Leinster. Ireland coach Declan Kidney has also named ex-Bristol fly-half Mark Tainton as his new kicking coach and is delighted to have added to his backroom staff. Kidney said: "We are delighted to have both Alan and Mark on board with Ireland. "Both of them are extremely strong technical coaches in their areas, and I think they will bring a further positive mix to the coaching team and squad. "Alan brings with him experience of both international and most importantly, Irish rugby. "Mark is recognised as one of the top kicking coaches in the world, and his experience of working with the squad in the past will help with the transition over the next number of weeks."
