Crossbar challenge

Scott Quinnell chanced his arm against Northampton Saints in a new Rugby Club feature.

Scott Quinnell is taking on the might of the Guinness Premiership in a new Rugby Club feature, in which the young guns of today take on the ex-British Lion in a test of distance and accuracy. The challenge: to throw a ball from 40 metres, over the uprights and between the posts, in one attempt. In the event of success, the player takes on Scott in a head-to-head showdown, vying to throw the ball the furthest distance possible from beneath the posts. The first episode features Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens, with the likes of Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe, Ben Foden and Sean Lamont stepping up to the challenge. Only two Saints players managed to slot the ball through the uprights, resulting in a three-man showdown. Scott now tours the rest of the Guinness Premiership clubs, in a bid to establish whether his throwing arm can defeat the current crop of Guinness Premiership players, despite retiring three years ago. Sky Sports analyst and former British & Irish Lion Scott Quinnell said: "I'm confident that my arm is still very much the one to beat; I've been practicing my quarterback throwing, and it's great fun heading to the clubs and taking on the boys on their home turfs. I'm determined to show them how it's done!" To see which players managed to reach the head-to-head, and to find out the outcome, tune in to The Rugby Club this Thursday at 5.30pm on Sky Sports 1/HD1.
