Dewi Morris is almost speechless after England's display against Italy and fears for them in Wales.
Rudderless England
England are going absolutely nowhere. That was evident on the performance against Italy. Irrespective of what I now call the Mallet incident after he played flanker Mauro Bergamasco at scrum-half in what I think was the worst Italy team I have seen in ten years.
They gifted England two tries and England had to work for absolutely nothing. In the second half they just did absolutely nothing. It is the same problem that we saw in the autumn.
There is absolutely no development and I have no idea where the coaching staff of Wells, Ford and Smith are going with this team.
It is scandalous really especially with the ridiculous price of tickets - they charge so much for entertainment that is so low.
That performance against Italy was inexcusable; England did not try anything and did not play any rugby. I think it was shame that Steffon Armitage was substituted by Joe Worsley - Armitage had no rucks to hit and was not given any pattern to play with whatsoever.
We don't produce quick ball and when we do Harry Ellis waits for ten seconds and then passes the ball out. I was lost for words.
Martin Johnson has got himself down a very narrow alley driving a very big artic lorry and he can not turn around. He has backed his captain; he has backed his coaches and said that everything is just fine. Those people he has backed are just not delivering for him and something has got to change. I think the Saxons would have put more points over that Italy side. We cannot even scrummage anymore!
I fear for England against Wales - in a perverse way maybe a heavy defeat will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and some positive changes will be made. Johnson has got to make some serious decisions if we are to have any sort of pattern and structure on the pitch.
We have got the players - all I can say is that they do not play like that for their clubs. The people who are accountable are the people in charge. In a court of law I could defend the players because I could show you evidence of how these players play for their clubs.
But when they join the England squad it is like they have their rugby brains removed. You watch Wales, you watch Ireland, you watch France they play rugby union - we are not playing the same game and it is so frustrating.
I do not understand how a man who understands the game and knows how it should be played, is letting this England side play like that. And that is the bottom line, he is allowing it because they have obviously been told and coached to not play any rugby.
As far as the selection for Saturday, well, I have no idea what Joe Worsley is going to do against Martyn Williams. You have a backrow that has no seven, you can say what you want about him playing seven for Wasps, but sorry it is a specialist position and Martyn Williams will take him to the cleaners.
