New deal for six Bristol players ahead of Bath derby
Bristol have been boosted by the news that they have signed up six players in their current squad on new contracts.
Ahead of Saturday's big Guinness Premiership clash with derby rivals Bath, Chris Ashwin, Ed Barnes, David Blaney, Mark Irish, Redford Pennycook and Roy Winters have all signed new deals.
Head coach Paul Hull was delighted to have six of his stars sign new contracts, saying it was great news for the future.
"I'm delighted that we've agreed terms with these players," said Hull.
"We've worked hard to get things to this point and it's great news for Bristol Rugby that they've committed themselves to the club.
Big plans
"All six of them have featured at first-team level this season and will be central to our plans for next season.
"It's a start and I hope to have more good news before too long."
Ashwin signed last summer and has made seven first-team appearances while continuing his studies at Bath University.
Fly-half Barnes signed from Plymouth Albion in 2007, and has been a regular in the number ten jersey leading up to his England Saxons inclusion in January.
Local lad Pennycock came through the academy, while Ashwin has played seven games as he continues his studies at Bath University.
Second-rower Winters will play for a fifth season next year, while Blaney has flourished since being initially signed only as injury cover, and Irish continues since joining from Gloucester last year.
