Edinburgh prop expected to be out of action for four months

Allan Jacobsen has undergone successful surgery on the shoulder injury that forced him out of the rest of this season's RBS Six Nations campaign. The Edinburgh prop - whose nickname is 'Chunk' - sustained the complaint during last weekend's 26-6 victory over Italy at Murrayfield. Jacobsen had the subsequent operation at the Spire Murrayfield Hospital on Wednesday night, with consultant orthopaedic surgeon Richard Nutton carrying out the procedure. He now faces around four months of rehabilitation before a possible return to action. Scotland team doctor James Robson explained: "Mr Nutton is pleased with the way the surgery had gone, despite the extensive damage to his (Jacobsen's) shoulder muscles. "Chunk will now undergo a period of convalescence and shoulder immobility followed by an extensive period of rehabilitation under the care of Edinburgh Rugby Club's medical team. "We expect him to be out of action for up to four months."
