England international to leave Exiles in the summer

Shane Geraghty will leave London Irish at the end of the season and join Guinness Premiership rivals Northampton. The 22-year-old has ended speculation surrounding his future by announcing he will move to Franklin's Gardens on a two-year deal. Geraghty has been with the Exiles since 2004 but has been touted with a move away from the Madejski Stadium for some time. The England international, who can play at fly-half or in the centres, admits he is looking forward to a "new challenge" in his career.

Delighted

"I am delighted to be taking up the new challenge that has been offered to me by Northampton Saints, and to work with the coaching team who I know from my involvement with the England Under-21 team," Geraghty said. "This opportunity will allow me to enjoy being part of the club's future ambitions and also enable me to hopefully force my way back into the England team." Geraghty's capture is a further boost for Northampton after they announced the signing of Newcastle captain Phil Dowson on Wednesday. Director of rugby Jim Mallinder believes the signing of one of the most talented players in the domestic league shows the lofty ambitions of the club.
Exciting talent
"Shane is an exciting, young, English talent, and I am delighted that he has signed for us," he admitted. "Although he is still young, he has played at all levels of the game, including England internationals and a Heineken Cup semi-final, as well as the Guinness Premiership. "This experience, existing talent and potential to improve still further make Shane an excellent addition to our squad. "We want players who can help Northampton Saints achieve our ambitions to become one of the top clubs in England and Europe over the next few years, and Shane is one such player." Geraghty made his international debut as a substitute against France back in 2007 and also appeared in this year's RBS Six Nations campaign, coming off the bench in the win over Italy at Twickenham.
