Shaw, Jones and Rees set to take on the Boks up front

The British and Irish Lions have beefed up their pack after making five changes for the must-win second Test in Pretoria. England lock Simon Shaw, the oldest man on the tour at 35, has been called in to add his weight to the second row, while Adam Jones and Matthew Rees have been handed the task of silencing the Springboks front row. The Lions have also brought in Luke Fitzgerald on the wing and Rob Kearney at full-back. Alun-Wyn Jones drops to the bench to make way for Shaw, while Phil Vickery and Lee Mears drop out the squad completely - as does under-fire winger Ugo Monye. Ross Ford and Andrew Sheridan are named as the front row cover among the replacements, where they are joined by Shane Williams.

Determined

Kearney takes the place of Lee Byrne, with the Wales full-back failing to recover from the injury that ended his involvement in the first Test. Lions coach Ian McGeechan said: "As a squad, the Lions still have everything to play for. "The players know that the outcome of the Test series comes down to Saturday, and they are determined to take the series to a decider in Johannesburg. "There were many positives to come out of the first Test that we have built upon this week. "We have made five changes to the starting XV, but it will not change the way we want to play. "Both teams will be better for the run last weekend, and we know we will have to step up our performance to ensure that we again take the game to the opposition and are more accurate in taking our opportunities." Lions skipper Paul O'Connell admitted he believes the experience, as well as the physicality, would be valuable for the Lions in Pretoria. "I think he's a fabulous player," he said. "He's well adapted to the way we play, good at the lineout and in the scrum. You can also never underestimate the value of experience." British and Irish Lions: 15 R Kearney (Leinster and Ireland); 14 T Bowe (Ospreys and Ireland), 13 B O'Driscoll (Leinster and Ireland), 12 J Roberts (Cardiff Blues and Wales), 11 L Fitzgerald (Leinster and Ireland); 10 S Jones (Scarlets and Wales), 9 M Phillips (Ospreys and Wales); 1 G Jenkins (Cardiff Blues and Wales), 2 M Rees (Scarlets and Wales), 3 A Jones (Ospreys and Wales), 4 S Shaw (Wasps and England), 5 P O'Connell (Munster and Ireland, capt), 6 T Croft (Leicester and England), 7 D Wallace (Munster and Ireland), 8 J Heaslip (Leinster and Ireland).
