Warriors captain to remain at Sixways until the end of 2012

Worcester captain Pat Sanderson has agreed a new contract extension to remain at Sixways until the end of 2012. Sanderson, who joined Worcester in 2004 from Harlequins, has scored 110 points in 115 games - with the back-rower so often the club's talisman. And the 31-year-old, who captained England on their 2006 tour to Australia, insists he would not want to play for any other club. "I am delighted to have committed my future to the Warriors," said Sanderson. "It has been an incredible journey so far yet there's so much still to achieve here and as I look at the season ahead it's hard not to feel excited about the future of the club. "We have an incredible team spirit here, both on and off the field, a committed chairman, a superb fan base and an amazing stadium. There is nowhere I would rather be playing rugby." Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock was full of praise of Sanderson. "It is fantastic news that Pat Sanderson has decided to extend his term at Warriors," said Ruddock.

Impressive

"Pat has always been the consummate professional, an outstanding performer, great player and top leader during his time at the club. "His motivational skills and leadership qualities have been incredibly impressive, hence my decision to continue to ask Pat to captain the Warriors but also extend his term as a player. "I have no doubt that Pat will maintain his high standards over the next three seasons. His fitness will never be an issue as he is still our fittest player and continues to lead the way in all standards at the club. "Having chatted with Pat about this contract extension, it became obvious that he believes that the club is about to make massive strides forward and he wants to be a part of that process. "Pat is exceptionally aware of the excellent young players being developed at the club and the high level of recruitment of outstanding international players like Chris Latham, Sam Tuitupou, Rico Gear and Greg Rawlinson. "He believes that all of this will make a difference to the club's position in the league and he desperately wants to see that process through."
