Rejuvenated wing hoping to reach milestone after move
Cardiff Blues recruit Dafydd James has his sights set on a return to the Wales squad, two years after winning his last cap.
Any hopes of an international recall appeared over when James had his contract terminated at Scarlets with over a year remaining last season.
However, Blues head coach Dai Young has given the 34-year-old another chance to prove himself, and James is now targeting a long-awaited international recall.
"People will say I'm off my head, but I've still got aspirations to play for Wales," he told
The South Wales Echo.
"Once you stop having aspirations and stop setting yourself goals you are on a slippery slope and you want to start looking to hang your boots up. I'm certainly not that way inclined.
Acrimonious
"I definitely haven't lost that hunger or desire, regardless of some people's opinions.
"I've had a good career and I've really enjoyed it, but I still believe there's a lot of mileage left in me and hopefully I can show playing for Cardiff what I'm still capable of doing.
"I've always been self-driven and self-motivated and I've certainly got aspirations to put the red shirt on again.
"I've got 48 caps at the moment and I would love to get to 50. It's a fantastic milestone. But I recognise there is a lot of hard work I've got to do. First of all I've got to try and get in the Cardiff team.
"But I've got a lot of self-belief in my abilities on the field. I'll let my rugby do the talking and continue with a smile on my face, which hasn't been there for a while."
